The Greatness of God Continued

Isaiah 55:8-9

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah certainly had a high view of God. In chapter 6 Isaiah saw a vision of God in heaven seated on the throne. Angelic beings cried Holy. The room shook at the presence of God. Then, in the verses Isaiah 55:8-9 above, God explains to Isaiah that He does things differently. In Ephesians 1:11 we learn that God works “according to the counsel of His will.” Think for a minute, who does God call when he has a question? The point is that there is no higher authority than God Himself. Often my mind hurts as I think about God. Yes, I can know the things that God chooses to reveal to me, but there is so much more to God than what he has revealed. When we see him in eternity then we will know Him. His thoughts about me, you, and that broken individual that we all know are not our thoughts. God sees us and loves us. I struggle to love myself and others. His heart breaks because of our brokenness. Mine turns to judgment. God desires a relationship with us. I want to quickly walk away and avoid interaction. 1 Timothy 2:4 teaches that God desires all men to be saved. God has gone to great lengths to provide that opportunity through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Then there is God’s Holiness, His sinlessness. My finite mind struggles to comprehend how a Holy sinless God can bring me into his presence and find Joy in me. My finite mind struggles to understand why he wants me. I know I am His creation but am sinful. Thank God for the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank God for His Love and Grace. I am thankful that God is greater than the mess of our world. I am thankful that God looks at us with a longing eye to hold us close, to walk with us, and to transform us. God is greater than I can imagine and he is my God.
